Pure Molybdenum

Molybdenum wire

Product Overview

Molybdenum wire is a common molybdenum product. Based on material type, it can be categorized into pure molybdenum wire, high-temperature molybdenum wire, spraying molybdenum wire, and wire-cut molybdenum wire, each type with distinct characteristics and applications. Molybdenum wire is an essential metal material, featuring excellent electrical conductivity, high-temperature stability, and wear resistance. It finds wide applications in wire cutting, electronic devices, heating elements, and more.

Properties

  • Types: Black molybdenum wire, white molybdenum wire, spraying molybdenum wire, and wire-cutting molybdenum wire.

  • Size: ≥0.05 mm

  • Condition: Vacuum annealed or non-annealed

Molybdenum Wire Varieties

  • Wire-cut molybdenum wire - specifically refers to the consumable wire used in wire-cut electrical discharge machining (EDM), where a thin metal wire moves continuously under high-voltage electric fields to cut the workpiece. This electrode wire (or simply electrode) erodes and shapes metal through pulse spark discharge during EDM. The common specifications for molybdenum wire on the market include 0.1 mm, 0.12 mm, 0.18 mm, and 0.2 mm.

  • Thermal spray molybdenum wire - has become an indispensable material in metal spraying technology. The flame spray process uses flame heat to melt molybdenum wire and spray it onto the surface of automotive parts (such as piston rings, synchronizer rings, and shift components) to increase wear resistance.

Advantages of Molybdenum Wire:

  • High precision, with diameter tolerance controlled within 0 to 0.002 mm;

  • Low breakage rate, high processing speed, and cost-effectiveness;

  • Enables stable, long-term continuous processing;

  • Uniform micro-grain size with fine and even metallographic structure;

  • Sprayed molybdenum wire produces a smooth and even coating with enhanced wear resistance.

Storage Precautions:

  • Store molybdenum wire in a low-humidity, cool, and ventilated area, ideally at 20°C to 25°C, to prevent oxidation.

  • Molybdenum wire stored for more than six months may experience issues with verticality.

Application of Molybdenum Wire:

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
